March 6, 2020 - A brief announcement by Frank Yohannan, Sea Otter Classic President & CEO, confirmed that the renowned spring event was officially postponed as a result of the Coronavirus, with a new date yet to be announced.
“After a thorough review of the coronavirus threat, we’ve decided to reschedule April’s Sea Otter Classic. Additionally, People for Bikes and Sea Otter Classic will reschedule the Bicycle Leadership Conference,” said Yohannan.
The prospect of a future date looms in the air and is expected next week. “We are coordinating with local authorities to determine the best dates to host the 2020 Sea Otter Classic and Bicycle Leadership Conference. We anticipate announcing those dates by the middle of next week,” added Yohannan.
The postponement follows in the wake of big pro races in Europe also being affected by the virus including the Strade Bianche men’s and women’s races in Siena which were cancelled, while others are being postponed. Pro WorldTour men’s and women’s race teams, and industry players, are scrambling in the wake of these sudden announcements.
The popular Sea Otter event at the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California is offering refunds and hopes for understanding.
“Information regarding registration refunds and rollovers will be posted on our website once the new dates have been finalized. Thank you again for your understanding and support during these challenging times,” concluded Yohannan.
