Almost 1 Million E-bikes Sold in Germany – Up 36%

by ebikes-international.com

July 5, 2019 - According to Germany’s bicycle-industry association, Zweirad-Industrie-Verband (ZIV), e-bike sales are booming. The association announced that the pedal-assist platform has helped boost the country’s bicycle-industry sales by more than 36% in 2018, compared to the previous year. More than 980,000 e-bikes were sold in Germany last year – one out of every four bicycles sold was electric.

According to the ZIV, e-bikes now hold a market share of 23.5%. The report underlines the importance of the segment to the industry, and the association expects the e-bike market share to increase to 30% in the medium term, while 35% is claimed as realistic in the longer term. With the growing popularity of the pedal-assist platform in the recent decade, the increase in sales has been a major contributing factor in the 3.16 billion-Euro valuation of Germany’s bike industry, and this shows no signs of slowing down.
