History of Benno Bikes & Their New Etility Category Combining Agility with Utility

by eBikes International

June 30, 2020 - (Del Mar, California) Benno Bikes was launched in 2015 and soon after created a new e-bike category called Etility with the aim to inspire and empower people to ride more. Founded by Benno Baenziger, who co-created the legendary Electra brand back in 1993, the new bike design features a blend of fun and utility in an e-bike.

“Electric assist flattens hills, shortens distances, blunts headwinds and lightens cargo weight but most regular e-bikes offer very little utility while full-size cargo ebikes are too big and awkward to ride daily,” says Baenziger, originally from Berlin, Germany. “So we’ve created a completely new ebike category that combines fun and practicality delivering an awesome ride yet with the capability to carry significant loads. Where agility meets true utility. We call it Etility.”

In the same way that he and partner Jeano Erforth developed Flat Foot Technology and the Electra Townie, that became the biggest selling model in the USA, Baenziger says electrification “changed the way I think about bike design and functionality.” While envisioning the kind of bike he’d like for personal use he became inspired to “make something that actually resonates with people.”

The Benno Carry On was followed by the award-winning Boost E, the EJoy, the EScout and the new RemiDemi all with Bosch mid-drive e-systems coupled with Shimano drivetrains. The company offers a modular racking system so users can select different racks and bags depending on their needs. Check out the video below and visit their website here bennobikes.com.
