The Hague Opens 2nd Largest Bicycle Garage in the World for 8,000 Bikes

July 5, 2020 - (The Hague, NL) On July 1, The Hague in Holland opened the second largest bicycle parking facility in the world at the city’s Central Station. With room for about 8,000 bicycles, including non-standard bikes such as cargo bikes, there are also 600 rental bikes available – watch video below.

The facility is in the basement of a huge building yet to be constructed in front of the Central Station reports Bicycle Dutch. Construction delays resulted in the garage going over budget by 5.5 million Euros which means the garage cost well over 42 million euros of which the city has to pay about half.

The Hague already has an underground parking garage for bicycles, but high demand along with The Hague’s goal of becoming a real cycling city led to the project.

“Nearly half of our travellers come to the station by bicycle,” Magdalena Piotrowska, NS director of the South Region told Dutch Review. “In recent years there was not enough parking space at this station. That is why we are very happy with this beautiful, spacious storage facility.”
