Legendary Tour de France Winner Greg LeMond Launches New Urban eBikes

by Barry Lyster

September 29, 2020 - Cycling icon and legendary Tour de France winner, Greg LeMond, has resurfaced in the bicycle world with the up-coming release of two e-bikes via his company LeMond Bicycles.

Taking a step away from his racing pedigree, the new Daily and the Dutch, are designed to take on the urban, commuter landscape, and not the roads of France in July. As such LeMond hopes to position the company as more of a lifestyle brand, rather than merely a performance road brand.

The European style Dutch offers a step-through frame while the Daily has a sleek more urban commuter look. Weighing less than 27 pounds, both feature carbon frames and upscale components including 250-watt Mahle Ebikemotion X35 rear hub drive motors with 40 Nm of torque. The battery is seamlessly integrated in the downtube and has a 74 km range with external booster batteries available.

A Shimano GRX 11-speed drivetrain and hydraulic disc brakes come stock with an optional up-grade to GRX Di2 and carbon wheels. The one-piece bar and stem, seat post and fenders are also made of carbon. Both models come complete with integrated front and rear lights and available in three colours and sizes.

LeMond is also in the process of launching new patented carbon technology developed via his other company, LeMond Composites. With other industries beyond cycling in mind, and recently acquired capital, the road bike performance scene may yet see the resurgence of the LeMond brand.
