by Barry Lyster

October 10, 2020 - On the heels of its Black Pepper performance update earlier this year, Fazua GmbH − based in Ottobrunn, Germany − announced optimizations to its popular lightweight performance Evation drive system, including a Connectivity Software 2.0 update; Remote bX; 12 V Connector Box; Charger X.

The new Connectivity Software 2.0 allows riders to more accurately track their rides while using their preferred bike computer. The novel software enables a BluetoothÆ Low Energy (BLE) connection between the Fazua Remote and any compatible bike computer or other third- party device. Previously, the only way to display these values was in the Rider app using Bluetooth. The open Bluetooth interface gives

Fazua riders the freedom to personally choose which device to use on their rides, be it their own smartphone, a navigation device, a standard BLE- enabled cycling computer with a display, or any one of the different brands of compatible wearables.

Integrated into the software are the standard BLE protocols Cycling Power Service (CPS) and Cycling Speed & Cadence Service (CSCS), making it possible to display the system- generated values for riders’ bike power (in watts), speed and cadence on the connected third-party device in real-time.

The Connectivity Software 2.0 update is available as a free download
from the App Store and Google Play. As the roll-out takes place in several stages, the timing can slightly differ. All bikes equipped with a BluetoothÆ-enabled remote from model year 2019 and later are compatible.

Fazua’s new Bluetooth-compatible Remote bX allows riders to control their Evation drive system from their handlebars. The drive system includes a responsive touch interface that can be disabled to make the mechanical button in the middle the only way to cycle through the three modes; this can also be customized using the Fazua Toolbox Software 2.0. Rain Mode disables the controls during rain to prevent unwanted changes, and five LEDs provide a highly visible indication of the battery level and system status.

The new lightweight Fazua Battery 250 X can be conveniently switched on and off via Remote bX or Remote fX and features a wake-up function along with UL certification to meet North American standards.

Also new is a small and subtle 12 V Connector Box that allows front and rear lights, which are connected to the Evation system to be controlled from the Evation remote.

The new compact Fazua Charger X offers a smaller, lighter and more affordable battery charger for Evation drive systems. It can fully charge the Fazua Battery 250 or 250 X in 3 to 4 hours with an 80% charge, making you ready to hit the road in short order.
