October 12, 2020 - The town of Moab in Utah is located between two national parks and claims to be home to the greatest mountain biking trails on the planet. It’s also been a longtime destination for filmmakers and enthusiasts wanting to hike, camp, fish, go hot air ballooning and more.
There are over 100 mountain biking trails in the region, and three of them are currently open to riders on Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes.
The Flat Iron Mesa is a 24.5km loop that follows the top of a canyon and provides access to some of the area’s most scenic views. The route is described as intermediate to advanced, but it offers a beginner option as well. Seven Mile Rim is a 24.4km intermediate loop with views of nearby Arches National Park, and Poison Spider Mesa is a challenging 28km loop for advanced riders.
Detailed route descriptions and maps are provided on the Discover Moab website. There are additional e-bike trails at nearby Dead Horse Point State Park.
The Moab area also offers hundreds of kilometres of paved-road cycling to explore by e-bike, with seven highlighted routes.
You can cycle along the Colorado River, take in breathtaking views of Arches National Park or visit Paradox Valley, so named because of the way the river runs perpendicularly across the middle of the valley instead of down its length.
Road cycling routes range from 54km to almost 130km in length, offering a mix of flat landscapes or continuous climbs depending on your selection.
With so many e-adventures to choose from, you may want to stay awhile. Area accommodations include campsites, bed & breakfasts, hotels, motels and condo rentals. There’s a wide selection of dining options to refuel after your e-bike adventure, as well as local breweries and two wineries to tour.
