November 23, 2020 - The price of electric bikes could be cut by up to a third under government plans to offer commuters a “sweat-free” alternative to conventional bicycles reports The Times.
Trials of the program are set to begin over the next five months before details of a full-scale support package are unveiled in spring 2021.
Although the details are yet to be finalized, according to the report ministers will launch a taxpayer-backed scheme to boost the number of people using e-bikes. The government favours a system of direct subsidies from 20-35% off, similar to grants for plug-in cars, motorbikes, vans, taxis and trucks.
