Survey in UK Claims New Infrastructure Resulted in 52% Increase in Cyclists

January 28, 2021 - A new survey in the UK demonstrates that new walking and cycling infrastructure saw large increases in use by cyclists (52%) and pedestrians (38%) and has the potential to improve population health with increased levels of physical activity, and reduce inequalities.

Published in ScienceDirect’s Journal of Transport & Health and conducted over a 3-year period in collaboration with the iConnect consortium and Sustrans, the study examined use, users, and benefit-cost ratios along with the associations between use of the new infrastructure and meeting physical activity guidelines, and concluded very high value for the money.
