April 3, 2021 - Velo-city, the world’s largest cycling conference, will be celebrating its 40th annual cycling summit in Lisbon, Portugal from September 6 to 9.
Initially planned for early June, the hybrid online and offline event had to shift its dates due to COVID to ensure that everyone could attend.
Velo-city’s main theme for this year’s event is Cycle Diversity. Topics will be based around bicycle diversity and cyclists of all ages, backgrounds and genders, urban mobility, economy and tourism, reshaping cities and policies, community building, and health and climate resilience.
Following the submission of 585 abstracts from 44 countries, the program features more than 50 unique sessions.
The Velo-city conference has been the European Cyclists’ Federation’s annual flagship event since 1980. The event attracts thousands of high-level participants involved in the policy, promotion of and provision for cycling, active mobility and sustainable urban development.
The host city Lisbon has taken great strides over the past decade in promoting and building a world-class cycling infrastructure from small to significant initiatives. The city’s current 100km network plans to double by the end of 2021.
