April 15, 2021 - Lawmakers in France have approved a 2,500 Euro rebate on the purchase of an e-bike for residents who agree to scrap their old clunkers as part of a draft climate bill reports Reuters.
In an effort to reduce greenhouse emissions by 40% in 2030 from 1990 levels the measure was approved in a preliminary vote at the National Assembly.
France just reported a 29% increase in e-bike sales as part of the country’s overall 25% increase in bicycle sales. I
In Canada, B.C. instituted a similar program in June 2019 offering an $850 rebate to drivers who scrapped their high-polluting vehicle to purchase an e-bike as part of the B.C. government’s Active Transportation plan. The rebate has since been raised to $1,050.
