Copenhagenize Design Co. Launches First Ever Master Class in Montréal Sept. 22-24

release by Copenhagenize Design Co.

Copenhagenize is launching the first ever Master Class in the Western Hemisphere in Montréal, our home in the Americas. A dynamic North American metropolis with strong links to European culture and lifestyle, Montréal is the perfect place to understand how best-practice bicycle planning is beginning to take root in cities on this side of the pond. In recent years, it has become one of the most bicycle-friendly cities in the Americas by adapting best practices from Northern Europe to North American realities.

Along with gaining a deep understanding of the ongoing transformations of Copenhagen and Montréal, the 2021 Montréal Master Class will cover engaging topics including global bicycle urbanism, infrastructure design, data collection, and effective communication. The program is jam-packed with of presentations, tours, workshops, guest talks and participants will also get to explore Montreal’s unique cityscape and world-famous food scene.

Ready to Apply?

August 21, 2021 - Every year we accept 15-25 passionate individuals with a desire to learn and work actively towards designing Life-Sized Cities with the bicycle leading the way. Past applicants have generally been professionals in planning, engineering and design, public officials, policy-makers, bicycle-focused business people, graduate students, and bicycle advocates. There is, however, no specific requirement.

Part of what makes the Copenhagenize Master Class so special is the fact that we bring together participants with international experience from around the world—people who can inspire each other.

Day 1

We kick off at Copenhagenize’s Montréal office, getting participants up to speed on Bicycle Urbanism best practices from around the world. In the afternoon we enjoy our first bike tour and explore some of what Montréal has to offer.

Day 2

The second day focuses on planning and infrastructure for cycling, informed by good data. We start by observing cycling behaviour in the wild, and then participants work together to apply the lessons learned to their own cities.

Day 3

On the last day we look to the future, discussing effective and innovative communication on cycling. We end the Master Class with a final tour visiting unique cycling facilities along Montreal’s main streets and waterways.
