Germany to Add 1.5 Million Bicycle Parking Spaces at Train Stations by 2030

release by the German Ministry of Transport

December 21, 2021 - Germany needs up to 1.5 million additional bicycle parking spaces at train stations by 2030. This has been shown by the study “Bicycle parking at train stations” as part of the BMDV’s scientific advice on mobility and fuel strategies.

As part of the special program City & Country, we provide municipalities with information on all important aspects of bicycle parking at the train station.

Following a study, Germany’s Ministry of Transport plans to add 1.5 million bicycle parking spaces. ©

The need for good bicycle parking facilities at train stations is great, but planning often fails due to a lack of knowledge, low planning resources or funding.

In order to accelerate the expansion of bicycle parking facilities and bicycle parking garages within the framework of the existing funding landscape and responsibilities, the bicycle parking information point at the train station will now provide targeted information to stakeholders.

We compile existing knowledge, supplement it in a targeted manner and make it available to stakeholders, especially the municipalities, in a user-friendly way.

We mediate between the responsibilities of the federal, state, local authorities, Deutsche Bahn with its subsidiaries DB Station & Service and DB Netz as well as land owners. BMDV press release on the start of the service point.

In addition to the information on this website, which is constantly being expanded, we are planning individual appointments, information events, specialist excursions and a large specialist conference in 2022.
