Toronto Police Issued Nearly 17,000 Tickets for Obstructing Bike Lanes in 2021

May 18, 2022 - Toronto Police issued a whopping 16,942 tickets to drivers obstructing bikeways across the city in 2021 – a 125% increase over the previous year reports Global News.

The number of cyclists and bike lanes in Toronto has grown substantially since 2020 and “parking in bicycle lanes obstructs the use of the lanes and creates a dangerous situation,” say police echoed by David Shellnutt, founder of The Biking Lawyer. Parking in a bike lane is a $150 fine and 70-90 officers enforce parking bylaws in Toronto each day.
