The Rise of the Cargo Bike Takes Hold in Brussels as Companies Rethink Inner-city Deliveries

June 1, 2022 - An increasing number of companies in Brussels are exchanging their vans for cargo bikes for faster, greener and more economical “last mile” inner city deliveries reports the The Brussels Times.

The surge has seen a 10-fold increase as prior about one in a thousand deliveries were made by bicycle, but now it’s closer to one in a hundred – about 6 million annually.

There are challenges with infrastructure and other road users, but studies show that about 25% of all goods and 50% of all deliveries, can be delivered with cargo or similar bicycles which will continue to play a role as a more sustainable “last-mile” delivery mode of the future.
