Prague’s New Depots and eCargo Bikes See Success for Sustainable Inner City Deliveries

The opening of two depots for cargo bikes in Prague’s city centre in 2020 and 2021 has seen success with about 7000 deliveries per month, while lowering costs and emissions reports Autonomy.

Prague’s new depots for cargo bikes are a runaway success for inner city deliveries, cutting costs and emissions. ©

The principle of the depot or hub is simple. A van drops the packages in the depot and from there they are brought to their recipients via cargo bike.

The depots also contribute to the city’s pledge to lower its CO2 emissions by 45% by 2030 and to be carbon neutral by 2050.

The cargo bike project also fits into Prague’s long-term vision to promote cycling and change its citizens’ attitudes to this means of transport. The bike depot concept was a finalist in the 2021 Eurocities Awards.
