August 25, 2022 - Toronto’s Transportation Service’s Project Design and Management Section is seeking Senior Project Managers to lead the design, consultation, and client-oversight for the delivery of complex, multi-modal quick build and civil construction capital projects across Toronto. These capital projects contribute to shaping a more livable, equitable and resilient city and keep Torontonians moving safely.
The Project Design and Management Section undertakes a variety of projects across four units:
- Cycling and Pedestrian Projects – Accountable for the integrated design and delivery of cycling and pedestrian infrastructure including new sidewalks, and on and off street bikeways.
- Major Projects – Accountable for the preliminary design of major transportation infrastructure projects as generally determined through Environmental Assessment processes and provides oversight for the detailed design and delivery of projects.
- Neighbourhood Projects – Accountable for the integrated design and delivery activities related to neighbourhood projects and programs such as StreetART, neighbourhood scale streetscape improvement and safety projects, and wayfinding.
- Vision Zero Projects – Accountable for the integrated design and delivery of programs and projects related to the City’s Vision Zero Road Safety Plan.
- The Project Design and Management Section is also growing to manage the delivery of surface transit improvement projects.
Currently, Transportation Services is hiring for Senior Project Managers within the Major Projects, Vision Zero Projects, Cycling and Pedestrian projects, and the new surface transit improvements unit, but will be establishing a qualified candidate list for the Project Design and Management Section to be considered for future permanent or temporary positions. The candidate list may also be used for other permanent and temporary positions in Transportation Services.
The Senior Project Managers will oversee multiple capital design projects and initiatives that help to advance Transportation Service’s Divisions goals within adopted City policies, like TransformTO, Vision Zero Road Safety Plan and Toronto’s COVID-19 Recovery and Rebuild Strategy, and will ensure projects meet the City’s engineering design standards, are effectively communicated and are implemented on time and within budget.
The Senior Project Manager candidates should possess extensive experience in designing multi-modal transportation projects within an urban environment and managing multi-disciplinary teams, the ability to work under time constraints and meet deadlines, and have proven communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders and the public.
