Shell’s jump into the micromobility sector follows its commitment to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050. The new Shell RIDE initiative has been spearheaded by Rahul Malhotra, Shell’s Head of Group Brand Strategy and Stewardship.
“I am very bullish about getting Shell involved in micromobility because I believe it will play a big role in the future of urban transport. If you look at the hard data, micromobility has just been one hockey stick in terms of growth and projections. We know there is high demand for micromobility but we also know that there is high demand for Shell to be in the micromobility space. Our consumer data shows our customers want our brand to move into micromobility even if we don’t have market share yet,” Malhotra told Zag Daily.
According to Shell, “The world’s energy system is changing. Shell is investing in more lower-carbon technology. This includes renewables such as wind and solar, new mobility options such as electric vehicle charging and hydrogen, and an interconnected power business that will provide electricity to millions of homes, companies and businesses.”
The company believes now is the right time to get into the micromobility before it’s too late. “With the newly released Shell RIDE line of e-scooters and e-bikes, Shell is now offering a fun, reliable, and low-emission mode of personal transportation for life’s short journeys.
