Portland University Study of Five U.S. Cities Finds Protected Bike Lanes Lead to Increase in Riders

December 29, 2022 - (Portland, OR) A Portland State University study looked at eight “Green Lane” projects sponsored by PeopleForBikes, and tracked the impact of new protected bike lanes in Austin, Chicago, Portland, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. reported Fast Company.

The study showed that ridership rose between 21% and 171% after the new protected bike lanes were installed. ©

The study found a rise of ridership between 21% and 171% after the new protected bike lanes were installed. Dating back to 2014 the study clearly demonstrates and supports current research regarding the direct link between ridership and safety.
