January 12, 2023 - On Dec. 10, ITPD and the Sustainable Transport Award (STA ) Committee announced the 2023 Sustainable Transport Award winner — Paris, France! The City of Paris previously received the STA in 2008, and has continued to be at the forefront of innovation in transport policy, mobility, and urban design.
Paris will be joined by two honorable mentions — Bhubaneswar, India and the State of Jalisco, Mexico. We look forward to celebrating these distinctive honorees, learning from them, and working with them for STA programming throughout the coming months. About the Sustainable Transport Award Series 2023
The Sustainable Transport Award Series from ITDP is the annual showcase of the STA winners which brings together urban transport experts, development practitioners, and world-class researchers to celebrate best practices and accelerate the implementation of sustainable transport projects.
Each year, the STA Committee selects a city that had implemented innovative sustainable transportation projects in the preceding year. These strategies improve mobility for all residents, reduce transport-related greenhouse gas and air pollution emissions, and improve safety and access for cyclists and pedestrians. In February, the 2023 STA winner and honorable mentions will be honored in a virtual ceremony.
To continue the celebration and share the stories of our winning cities, ITDP and the STA Team have been preparing the Sustainable Transport Award Series 2023, a webinar series that dives deeper into what earned these cities their STA recognition. This spring, two technical webinars will highlight the honorable mentions, Bhubaneswar and the State of Jalisco. In the fall, webinars in partnership with the City of Paris will explore the city’s sustainable transport interventions.
Now in its eighth year, this Series (previously known as the MOBILIZE Summit and Mobilize Virtual) will continue to showcase best practices and insights from cities that are changing their residents’ lives with sustainable, equitable, and accessible mobility.
