Tasmania Commits $1.2 Million in Landmark eBike Grants and Why Australia Should Follow Suit

June 16, 2023 - As part of its new Climate Change Action Plan, the Tasmanian government has committed $1.2 million in incentives for people buying e-bikes, e-scooters and e-vehicles reports Australia’s Bicycle Network and h/t to @a_mccormack for this news.

Details of how much of the $1.2 million will go towards e-bikes specifically, or what the grant program will look like, are still pending. Five times more e-bikes were sold in Australia than electric cars in 2021-22.

Bicycle Network called for e-bikes to be included in the National Electric Vehicle Strategy released last month and hopes Tasmania sets an example for the norm rather than the exception.
