September 6, 2023 - At Moustache, we dreamed of a bike that was more open than ever, more comfortable than ever, a bike that would go even further than anything we had ever done. A magical bike to make you want to start or get back on the bike, to allow each of us to explore new uses, new territories. We dreamed of a bike that multiplies the pleasure of riding, totally free, hair in the wind, smile on the face.
We dreamed of full-suspension, belt transmission, silence and incredible smoothness. We dreamed of a bike as simple and beautiful in appearance as it is simple and pleasant to use, a bike whose shape simply expresses its function.
Finally, we dreamed of creating even more value and employment in France, our obsession for more than 10 years, and we dreamed of changing the rules of the game once again, by producing the frame as close as possible to home, using new technologies and solutions. But going from dream to reality wasn’t easy. We had to create or adapt the know-how in France.
Three years of effort for our teams and partners. Three years of pushing the limits, three years that give even more meaning to the Moustache adventure.
A uniquely designed frame
In 2011, the Moustache project started from a blank sheet of paper, with everything to write, everything to invent. We have taken out this blank sheet again for the J project with this same desire to open up the use of the bike deeply anchored in us. We redesigned everything, we freed ourselves from constraints to create J, our dream bike and our wildest dream.
Designing J was a real challenge and an enormous amount of work for our designers, our R&D teams and our foundry and machinist partners. By imagining a frame using only 2 parts and pushing the limits of gravity casting (a unique process in the bicycle world to manufacture a complete frame), J went from dream to reality.
We were able to create a hollow body casting, capable of integrating the elements of an electric assistance while maintaining the dynamic qualities of resistance and rigidity inherent in the use of ebikes.
This technology allowed us to make a seamless frame with sleek lines. A frame with internal reinforcements to make it rigid and secure to use – an open and fully-suspended frame as rigid as a closed frame. We were able to integrate the motor and battery, but also the cables and the Bosch ConnectModule anti-theft tracker.
The architecture of J’s framework is unique. The rear suspension arm integrates the motor, eliminating any variation in chain or belt tension. With total energy transfer to the rear wheel.
Our commitment to more sustainability 100% made in France J’s frame is cast in Vitrolles, near Marseille in the south of France. It is then machined in Poligny in the Jura, then powder coated in Schirmeck in Alsace. The assembly of the 2 parts of the frame and the mounting of the complete bike are done entirely in our factory in Thaon-les Vosges. All scrap and surplus materials are recycled by remelting. We use a powder coating for the frame that eliminates the use of solvents and offers an even more more durable finish.
J, it’s a liberated design for constraint-free use. As soon as it was revealed, J received the Eurobike Gold Award 2023 in June, a prestigious prize awarded at the world’s largest bicycle trade fair. We’re very proud of this international recognition, which rewards all our team for their determination, creativity and precision.

J, it’s the “smiling machine” that has solved an equation of crazy complexity: to bring together in a single bike a combination of magical qualities often difficult to reconcile technically…
J is smooth
The Bosch Performance Line 250W motor integrated into the suspension arm offers incomparably smooth, progressive, natural and quiet assistance, while offering a high level of assistance thanks to its high torque (75Nm).
Enviolo models equipped with belt transmission and continuously variable hub go even further: smooth shifting, no jerks, no risk of chain jumping. Full control of a simple rotation of the handle, whether pedaling or not. Pure pleasure! The tires selected for the different models complete the experience: low rolling resistance, silent, vibration-free. A treat to ride.
Suspension
Want to think outside the frame? Want to pass over the potholes with ease? With its adjustable dual suspension, the Moustache Magic Grip Control hydropneumatic rear shock and its comfortable saddle, J absorbs all shocks smoothly and turns any ride into pure pleasure. Its comfort-oriented geometry, its ergonomic Moustache handlebar and its adjustable stem offer a natural upright position, so pleasant that we will never meet you without a big smile on your face.
J is secure with its next-generation anti-theft protection arsenal
For optimized protection, J is equipped with the eBike Lock and eBike Alarm functions as standard via the Bosch ConnectModule integrated into the frame. The eBike Lock blocks the start of your bike’s motor in the event of a theft attempt and is unlocked via your smartphone. The eBike Alarm is a GPS tracker that geolocates your bike in real time and emits an audible signal in case of theft. This function is automatically activated as soon as you turn off your bike (with a subscription SIM card). And each J, like all of our bikes from now on, is equipped with a new generation permanent marking (unique number + QR code), the Moustache Code. This tamper-proof blockchain technology makes it possible to associate the owner and their bike irrefutably. Anyone finding a J can get in touch with its owner via anonymous messaging, by simply scanning the QR code.
J is designed to limit maintenance
J, it’s a suspended frame in only 2 parts, refined to the maximum. Fewer parts and very robust parts, which means fewer potential problems! Devilishly effective to simplify your daily life! To reduce the risk of damage, cables and front light are also integrated. The continuously variable belt and hub transmission (available on Enviolo versions), significantly reduces daily maintenance so no need to oil your chain or regularly adjust your gearing. And thanks to the integration of the engine within the rear arm, there is also no need for a complicated belt tensioner despite the suspension!
