November 19, 2023 - On the world’s road last year, there were over 280 million e-bikes, electric mopeds, e-scooters, e-motorcycles and electric three-wheelers, cutting demand for oil by a million barrels a day – about 1% of the world’s total oil demand, according to estimates by Bloomberg New Energy Finance reports The Conversation.
This volume far eclipses the over 20 million electric vehicles and 1.3 million commercial EVs such as buses, delivery vans and trucks also on the road last year.
While EVs are much cheaper to operate and maintain annually than petrol cars, such costs plunge for e-bikes and other 2- and 3-wheeled electric vehicles.
