Record 39% of Workers in Belgium Bike to Work as Cycling’s Popularity Increases Each Year

February 19, 2024 - The popularity of cycling in Belgium is increasing year by year as 39% of commuters cycled to work in 2023 vs 33% in 2021 reports VRT News.

According to Charlotte Thijs, mobility expert at Acerta Consult, the bicycle allowance has enormously boosted the increased use of bicycles. Thijs adds that a wide range of types of bikes are now available including e-bikes, and there’s also better infrastructure, including cycle highways, that are contributing to the boost in cycling.

Car usage remains dominant but is dropping as well from 78.3 per cent in 2022 to 77.7% in 2023, whether combined with other means of transport or not. Read the full report here.
