release by TAITRA

March 5, 2024 - (Taipei, Taiwan) Taipei Cycle 2024 kicks off tomorrow at the Nangang Exhibition Center Halls 1 and 2. Between March 6-9, 950 exhibitors from both national and international sectors will showcase the very latest developments in the cycling industry across 3,500 booths. This year, the event’s scale has increased by nearly 15% compared to 2023, and 5% compared to pre-pandemic levels.

Leading brands, including Merida, Giant, KMC, SRAM, and Shimano will participate as the show focuses on four key themes; Micro Mobility, Green Action, Startup & Innovation and Cycling Culture and Lifestyle, reflecting the industry’s commitment to sustainability.

During the opening press conference, Felix Chiu, Executive Vice President of TAITRA stated that the Taiwanese bicycle industry had seen a decrease in exports of complete bicycles and parts in 2023 due to inventory adjustments. However, with the sector beginning to align itself with global shifts toward sustainable practices, and promoting healthy lifestyles, it is expected to grow throughout 2024. This year’s TAIPEI CYCLE has already attracted over 3,000 pre-registered international buyers from more than 70 countries, indicating a promising future for industry development and business opportunities.

Today, the TAIPEI CYCLE d&i awards, now in its twelfth year, has announced 47 winning entries across eight countries, with five products receiving the Gold Award and two for the ‘Startup Award’ and ‘Green Prize’. The winning entries highlight a trend in bicycle manufacturers integrating sustainable designs and eco-friendly materials. Gold Award winners include Liv’s latest gravel bike, the Devote Advanced Pro, tailored to female riders; Merida’s Silex gravel bike praised for its geometry and component selection; the WellGo power pedals, designed with user convenience in mind, making power meters more accessible to cyclists; the environmentally conscious Strategic Sports CB005 helmet made from recycled materials; and the Organix Concept Ltd. Proton bike light, featuring a user-friendly charging solution and streamlined design. The increasing use of eco-friendly materials in cycling products signifies a notable shift in the industry towards innovative and sustainable design. Vittoria won the Green Award for producing tyres with up to 92% recycled materials in a carbon-neutral factory, whilst the Startup Award was given to Sillykids Bug Bike for its innovative design and unique accessories that offer a diverse and imaginative range of possibilities for young cyclists

Additionally, collaborations like Acer’s AI cycling app “ebiiGO” and Delta Electronic’s E-Bike mid-drive motor showcase successful cross-industry partnerships, potentially encouraging more IT companies to enter the bicycle industry.

This year’s show will explore green action with a special focus on the Riding towards Sustainability industry forum on 7 March. Speakers from leading brands, including the CEO of Cycling Industries Europe and the Sustainability Manager at Rapha, the well-known British cycling apparel, will delve into how sustainability can shape the industry’s future. The show also introduces the Green Map, featuring 68 companies actively embracing green practices in manufacturing, design and business operations, aiming to promote and guide visitors towards sustainable exhibitors.

Additionally, the TAIPEI CYCLE Workshop will feature a range of sessions on topics from financial risk management in the bicycle industry to sports marketing and design verification, alongside bike polo and cycling cuisine. The E-Cycling Pavilion will exhibit 3D bicycle simulation software, intelligent training platforms, hill climbing simulators and riding experience systems. The pavilion will also hold several corporate challenges and the Cycle Girls female cyclist challenge. For the first time, an E-Bike Demo test area will be located indoors on the 4th floor of TaiNEX Hall 2. Visitors can test the functionality of many displayed E-Bikes on various ramps within the area.

TAIPEI CYCLE opens on 6 March, welcoming industry participants for pre-registration and badge collection. The exhibition will be open to the general public for ticketed visits between 8-9 March.
