April 10, 2024 - The City of Montreal has announced its plans to invest $30 million in 2024 and add nearly 17 kilometers to its current bicycle network network while improving 17 kilometers during maintenance work.
With 29 projects planned across 13 boroughs and three linked cities, the current $30 million investment is part of Montreal’s 2023-2027 Bicycle Vision unveiled in 2022 that will see 200 km of new secure bikeways installed over the next five years. This includes 10 new axes of the Réseau express vélo (REV) and 60 km of additional cycle paths for the second phase of the REV.
The five-year plan was first time that the City of Montreal has unveiled such a comprehensive vision for cycling, based on the local needs expressed by each of the boroughs with the aim of extending its safe and efficient cycling network to the four corners of the island.
In addition, Bixi Montreal opened over 60% of its network on April 2, the earliest opening date in its history. By April 8 about 85% of the BIXI network was in service with more stations added throughout the Island of Montreal – April 15 is the official season launch.
