Paris Implements Limited Traffic Zone in City Center for Public Transport & Active Mobility

release by the City of Paris

November 6, 2024 - As of November 5, 2024, a Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL) is implemented in Paris Center. Only traffic originating from or destined for the streets within this perimeter is authorized. Conversely, transit traffic (crossing the zone) is prohibited.

A Limited Traffic Zone (ZTL), a device already used by several large European cities such as Madrid, Milan or Rome, consists of the creation of an area where traffic is restricted to certain types of users or vehicles with the aim of calming traffic and reorganizing mobility in favor of public transport and active mobility.

The new system will be implemented gradually with an educational phase planned to allow residents to familiarize themselves with the new traffic arrangements.
