German Cycling Market Sees Slight 2.5% Drop for 2024 – eBikes Still Strong at 53% of Sales

March 13, 2025 - In 2024, the share of electric bicycles sold in Germany remained at the previous year’s level of 53%. In total, 3.85 million cycling vehicles were sold – 2.05 million e-bikes and 1.8 million bicycles – which represents a decrease of 2.53% compared to 2023 which saw 3.95 million units sold.

The value of industry sales remained relatively stable: at more than €6.33 billion (2023: €7.06 billion), the total turnover for bicycles and e-bikes, which corresponds to a decrease of 10.3% compared to the previous year, yet it is still significantly higher than the overall yearly sales in 2019 (€4 billion).

Across all sales channels – specialist retailers, online, B markets, etc. – the industry recorded a gross price of €500 for bicycles (2023: €470) and €2,650 for e-bikes (2023: €2,950). Discount promotions in retail stores have reduced the prices of e-bikes by an average of 10.1% in 2024. Bicycles without motor rose by 6.4% in the price.

According to ZIV (German Cycling Industry), the proportion of stationary specialist retailers in the bicycle industry remained very high at 70 % (2023: 74%), because competent advice on site plays an important role for the customers.
