Bike Share Continues to Boom in Europe Says Fluctuo 2024 EU Shared Mobility Annual Report

March 20, 2025 - Bike share systems in Europe for both station-based and dockless operations continue to boom according to Fluctuo’s 2024 European Shared Mobility Annual Report that was recently released.

Fleet sizes are up 9% for station-based systems while ridership is up 12% to 227 million. For dockless operations the numbers are even more staggering with fleet sizes up 18% and ridership up a whopping 58%.

Paris’ Velib maintains its position as Europe’s largest bike-sharing system with nearly 50 million trips, while Barcelona is second at 18 million with Madrid third at 9 million. For dockless systems London leads the charge at 28 million followed by Paris at 19 million with Copenhagen in third at 3.2 million.

The biggest developments in 2024 were in Spain which saw 20 million Euros assigned for improving and expanding public share systems. BiciMad in Madrid grew to 7,500 electric bikes recording a 30% increase in ridership.
