Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo 2026 Canada’s National Bicycle Count June 2-7 – Book Your Shift Today

release by Vélo Canada Bikes

Pedal Poll/Sondo Vélo 2026 is less than a week away and it’s time to book your shift and help build the case for more and better cycling infrastructure in your community. Hundreds of volunteers across Canada are stepping up to help close the gaps in cycling data. Join them to help get the data we all need to inform better planning.

Help close the gaps in cycling data – the data we collect together can answer many questions to support better planning and advocacy locally, provincially and federally. ©

No experience is needed – just some time and a desire to help. The count is taking place over five days between June 2 and 7. Canadian communities are seeing a surge in micromobility, creating both opportunities and challenges for planners, governments, industry and users.

To capture a snapshot of these diverse travel modes, we launching a new mode for this year’s national bicycle count and we’re also using a new, custom web app that can handle tallying micromobility traffic AND claiming your local count shift.

Questions we can help answer together
The data we collect together can answer many questions to support better planning and advocacy locally, provincially and federally. For example…

🕐 How does ridership vary through the day and between weekdays and weekends?
🚲 🛴 What proportion of bikes and e-scooters are from shared systems?
🛵🏍️ How popular are e-motos are in my community?
🛣️ On street bike path, painted line, multi-use pathway, etc; what types of facility are the most popular for cycling?
🗓️ How are cycling rates changing over the years?
