Truth in Biking in California – Let’s Pass the Best eBike Bill and Support SB 1167

release by Calbike

July 10, 2026 - California has a chance to pass a practical, focused e-bike consumer protection bill – with your help! SB 1167, authored by Senator Catherine Blakespear and co-sponsored by CalBike, Streets For All, SAFE, and PeopleForBikes, takes a clear and workable approach to one of the biggest problems in the e-bike marketplace: devices that do not meet California’s legal e-bike definitions being marketed and sold as if they do.

The bill does not create new licenses, plates, registration systems, or fees for people who ride legal e-bikes. Instead, it uses the definitions California already has and puts the responsibility on companies to accurately market, label, and disclose what they are selling.

We’re asking Speaker Robert Rivas and Chair Buffy Wicks to advance SB 1167 to the Assembly floor. Sign on here.
