Bowinn Ma an MLA in B.C. Receives Arno Schortinghuis Lifetime Achievement Award

March 4, 2022 - Bowinn Ma, BC MLA for North Vancouver-Lonsdale and Minister of State for Infrastructure, received the Arno Schortinghuis Lifetime Achievement Award at HUB Cycling’s 9th Annual Virtual Bike Awards that took place on February 24.

Schortinghuis was an institution in cycling advocacy, and worked tirelessly for many years to improve cycling conditions in the province. The 72-year-old former president of the BC Cycling Coalition, died Nov. 30, a day after he had an accident while riding home from a meeting with Richard Campbell, the organization’s executive director – read more here.

“I’m humbled to be this year’s recipient of HUB Cycling’s Arno Schortinghuis Lifetime Achievement Award. I’m so grateful to HUB Cycling for everything they do to remove barriers to cycling throughout Metro Vancouver. There’s still more work ahead for all of us; thank you for the motivation to keep going,” wrote Ma on her FB page – read our interview with her regarding her decision to trade in her gas-powered vehicle for an electric cargo bike back in 2019..

The HUB Cycling’s Bike Awards are a celebration of organizations and individuals that are making biking better across Metro Vancouver. This year’s Bike Awards was hosted by CBC video journalist Uytae Lee, and the event was also joined by twelve elected officials from across the region who helped present the awards.
