Berlin’s Police Now Use Cargo Bikes as Part of the City’s Mobility Transition

May 8, 2022 - Berlin’s police force recently acquired cargo bikes for officers as part of the city’s mobility turnaround reports the Berliner Morgenpost. Currently police also have access to around 630 bicycles and officials claim that the program promotes a better understanding between cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.

The first bike police officers were deployed as a test pilot in the summer of 2014 in Berlin’s city center, and became a permanent force in 2018. The cargo bikes are being used by traffic safety advisors for accident prevention, advising day-care centres, elementary schools and special schools, to support children.
