May 26, 2025 - (Frankfurt/Taipei) Taiwan’s bicycle industry is showing the first signs of recovery after years of global market stagnation. According to preliminary data from the Taiwan Bicycle Association (TBA), both e-bike and component exports rose in the first quarter of 2025, driven by increasing demand for high-value products and improved average unit prices.

For the first time since the pandemic, Taiwan’s e-bike export value recorded year-on-year growth, reaching USD 236 million (approx. EUR 207 million) from January to April – a 0.26 % increase. The average export price per e-bike exceeded USD 2,000, climbing to USD 2,023 (approx. EUR 1,776), a rise of around 12.03 % compared to the same period in 2024.
“This increase in export value, despite a continued drop in volume, highlights the success of Taiwan’s shift toward premium segments,” said Robert Wu, Chairman of the Taiwan Bicycle Association. “A single e-bike typically commands the price of three conventional bicycles, which has prompted many Taiwanese manufacturers to scale up investment in e-bike development.”
Exports of bicycle components also saw a marked improvement, totaling USD 437 million (approx. EUR 384 million) from January to April, a 5.92 % year-on-year increase. According to the TBA, this growth is largely attributed to a recovery in new bike orders and consistent demand from OEMs for replacement and aftermarket parts.
“There are signs of renewed activity in the market for new bicycles, especially in Europe and North America,” Wu noted. “While the industry remains cautious, the current data points to a gradual stabilization and a renewed focus on high-end innovation.”
The latest export figures are being closely watched ahead of Eurobike 2025, where many of Taiwan’s leading manufacturers are expected to unveil new developments and consolidate their role in the global premium e-mobility sector.
