June 15, 2023 - (Toronto, ON) The City of Toronto has approved the Bloor Street West Complete Street Extension project voting 21-1 to proceed with the project that aims to make travel on the street safer, more inviting, and attractive for everyone.
“It’s OFFICIAL,” tweeted local cycling advocate Robert Zaichkowski who launched a petition “Let’s Finish the Job” to support the project. “Phase 1 from Runnymede to Aberfoyle will be installed this summer & then to Resurrection next year.”
Cycle Toronto was equally supportive and excited with the news, “We are thrilled that Council has approved the proposed 8.6km of new bike infrastructure, including extending Bloor St W over the Humber past Royal York! 🙌🏻👏🏼🥳🚲🤩 Bloor was one of our original campaigns. Thank you @TO_Cycling_Ped for all your hard work! #BikeTO.”
Back in February, Toronto City Council voted to make the Midtown Yonge Complete Street Pilot permanent. The results of the Council’s vote for the Bloor Street West Complete Street Extension were tweeted by Matt Elliott who writes for the Toronto Star and CBC Toronto.
