Boston’s CargoB Launches USA’s First eCargo Bike Share and Sees Early Success

June 28, 2024 - (Boston, MA) In mid-May, Boston’s CargoB was officially launched as the USA’s first on-demand e-cargo bike share operation, opening hubs in three neighbourhoods around the city. Success has come early, as only a short month later, response has far exceeded expectations say founders Dorothy Fennell and Zack DeClerck.

“CargoB’s first 300 riders have moved their dogs, lawn mowers, BBQ grills, teenagers, air conditioners, etc…,” reads a brief update by Fennell on LinkedIN. “We’ve had visitors from out of the country take a CargoB for the day to hit Boston’s many museums and we’ve supported those day-to-day trips to Costco and school drop-off.”

Boston is clearly a city that’s embracing cycling as Mayor Michelle Wu is an avid cyclist, and last September Wu and the Boston Transportation Department  announced the launch of Boston Delivers, an e-cargo bike delivery pilot program, to serve local residents and businesses – read more here.

“We’ve found a clear appetite for CargoB to dramatically grow its fleet and footprint to serve more people,” added Fennell as more neighborhoods are in the works.

CargoB will be at community events all summer long, like Open Streets, to display their fleet and offer free test rides as they hope to be part of transforming urban mobility in Boston.
