California E-Bike Incentive Project Round #2 on May 29 Receives 128,000 Applicants

June 5, 2025 - The California E-Bike Incentive Project’s round #2 on May 29 received 128,000 applicants who attempted to join the event for 1,000 available vouchers according to the organizers, and it looks like the process went smoothly utilizing the new “dedicated waiting room” protocol.

Last week’s project launch saw 128,000 prospective applicants join the event for 1,000 available vouchers. If you successfully applied, congratulations on taking a step towards a cleaner and greener future! Our team is reviewing applications and will be in touch with applicants soon. Please note, the review process can take up to 90 days.

For applicants who were successful in gaining access to the dedicated waiting room a total of $2 million, or approximately 1,000 vouchers, will provide income-eligible applicants up to $2,000 towards the purchase of an eligible e-bike.

The first round of vouchers, which were delayed and then launched in December of last year, received around 100,000 applicants but saw problems as the window to apply closed abruptly about forty minutes into the launch leaving some calling the process “a mess”, “a disaster and “rigged”.

The program’s initial second round on April 29 saw the website experience “technical issues” and crash resulting in no vouchers being distributed.

For residents who were not able to apply, additional application rounds will be available. The California E-Bike Incentive Project is working on the details for the next application window.

The initiative by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) has been a long time coming and is being launched in partnership with more than 20 community-based organizations. CARB estimates that the $31 million budget of the pilot project will fund approximately 15,000 e-bike vouchers.
