CBC Interview with Authors of Curbing Traffic and Building the Cycling City

November 16, 2021 - Check out this great CBC In Town and Out audio interview with Canadian mobility experts, Melissa and Chris Bruntlett of @modacitylife, as they chat with host Giacomo Panico about their new book Curbing Traffic: The Human Case for Fewer Cars in our Lives.

The Bruntletts packed up their family in Vancouver, BC, and moved to Delft in 2019 to experience the biking city as residents rather than as visitors. In 2018 they had become unofficial ambassadors for Dutch cities with the publication of their first book Building the Cycling City: The Dutch Blueprint for Urban Vitality.

In their second book, Curbing Traffic: The Human Case for Fewer Cars in Our Lives, they chronicle their experience living in the Netherlands and the benefits that result from treating cars as visitors rather than owners of the road.

The book explains why investments in improving the built environment are about more than just getting from place to place more easily and comfortably. Low-car cities also lower anxiety and stress, increase independence, social autonomy, inclusion, and improve mental and physical well-being.

The duo were recently the keynote speakers at Bike Ottawa’s AGM and have fans across the country. “We’re consistenly blown away by the effectiveness of the @modacitylife team in putting words and images together in ways that have enormous impact,” London Bicycle Cafe @LdnOntBikeCafe
