Date: Thursday, February 5
Time: 7:00 pm
Venue: Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema (Bloor and Bathurst)
If you’re new to The War on Cars, it’s a New York City–based podcast with a large international following that examines how decades of car-first planning have reshaped our cities, our politics, and our daily lives. Through reporting, history, and culture, the show has become one of the most influential voices challenging car dominance and making the case for safer, more people-centred streets.

Doug and Sarah have often noted that Toronto is the spiritual home of the “war on cars,” drawing inspiration from former mayor Rob Ford’s infamous declaration. This event comes as renewed provincial efforts to roll back bike lanes and road safety measures have once again placed Toronto at the centre of a broader culture war. Fortunately, their new book, Life After Cars, points to very real possibilities for change and progress.
Copies of Life After Cars are available to purchase with your ticket order, to be picked up at the event, thanks to the Spacing Store.
