Austria’s E-bike Sales Reach Record Highs

by ebikes-international.com

July 5, 2019 - Last year marked a stellar year for e-bike sales in Austria due to its market share growing to a whopping 33%, making it one of the biggest EU e-bike players in the world, reported ARGE-Fahrrad, Austria’s industry organization, which is part of the country’s Association of Sporting Goods Suppliers (VSSÖ).

The country experienced record-high sales throughout the year, which have increased by more than 10.4% annually since 2017. Of the 457,000 bicycles that were sold in 2018, more than 150,000 of them were e-bikes, indicating that the platform is having a massive impact on the industry.

The average retail price for a bicycle sold through IBDs increased 20% to 1,265 Euros in 2018, while the average retail price for an e-bike was up by 8.4% to 2,698 Euros.

Still, e-bikes only represent approximately 8% of the total mobility market in the country, which leaves room for much more growth.
