eCities – Rimini, Italy – Population 150,630

September 27, 2025 - The charming and historic coastal city of Rimini on the Adriatic Sea boasts 3.3 million tourists each year. The city serves as an excellent example of how investing in sustainable mobility and cycling is a key pillar in improving citizens’ health and well-being.

The city’s Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan has made Rimini greener than ever, including the doubling of its cycling paths. Rimini is well on its way to reaching 50% of daily trips completed by cycling, walking and public transport.

The Bicipolitana, a 135km network of bicycle routes connecting the sea, the city and the countryside, further exemplifies Rimini’s commitment to sustainable mobility.

One of Rimini’s flagship projects is its 15km waterfront, where grey car-dominated infrastructure was transformed into an urban Sea Park, making room for green areas, cycling, walking, open-air gyms and the creation of more beach space.

The waterfront route is a local cycling favourite, along with the Anello Verde (Green Loop) that embraces the entire city. The route takes in the ruins of a Roman Amphitheatre and the Fellini Museum dedicated to Rimini-born film director Federico Fellini.

In addition, the city implemented a Bike Park that offers bike rentals, including e-cargo bikes and other services. The park was strategically placed in front of the main train station, another example of the city’s dedication to cycling and green sustainability.

Rimini also offers an endless selection of bike hotels, along with fabulous cycling opportunities in the region. Top cycling routes include the hilly routes through Santarcangelo and the Marecchia Valley, the Panoramica of San Bartolo, the Gothic Line MTB route, the Route of the Malatesta Castles, and the scenic Ciclovia del Sole.

A popular cultural attraction on the outskirts of Rimini is one of Italy’s most unique and famous parks, Italy in Miniature, with over 270 scale reproductions of Italian monuments, churches and buildings.

In September, Rimini becomes immersed in the world of bikes and cycle-tourism with the Italian Bike Festival, the most important event in Italy dedicated entirely to the world of cycling, and the ideal meeting point for enthusiasts, professionals and the general public alike!

The City of Rimini will also be hosting the prestigious 2026 Velo-city conference from June 16-19 at Palacongressi- IEG Expo. FIAB, the Italian Federation for the Environment and Cycling, is a partner — it’s the largest advocacy organization for cyclists in Italy with over 20,000 members.

FIAB awarded Rimini the title of “Bicycle-friendly Municipality” for the fourth consecutive year, acknowledging the city once again among the 40 bike-friendly municipalities in Italy.
