October 28, 2025 - (Edmonton, AB) Edmonton’s new $153M velodrome at the Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre is almost completed and will start welcoming cycling clubs to train on its fresh 250-metre track reports CTV and other outlets.

“The facility itself is unlike any other,” said Alex Ongaro, the head coach of the Argyll Velodrome Association told CTV. “I believe this is the best facility in the US or Canada.” Ongaro won a silver medal in the sprint event for Canada at the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Scotland.
In the works for nearly two decades the state-of-the-art facility is a game changer for cyclists in Canada that now boasts three such world-class indoor velodromes including the Mattamy National Cycling Centre in Milton, Ontario, and the Centre National De Cyclisme De Bromont in Bromont, Quebec.
The velodrome is expected to open to the public in the new year along with Coronation Park Sports and Recreation Centre, founded in 1957, that is anticipated to open sometime in January with several amenities including a running track, fitness centre, bouldering wall, gymnasiums, multi-purpose rooms and an indoor play space.
Also confirmed is the 2026 Canadian Track Championships (Junior/U17), which will take place from March 27–29 at the new velodrome at Coronation Park Sport and Recreation Centre. Organized by the Alberta Velodrome Association, this event marks the first national championship to be hosted at Canada’s newest indoor velodrome.
The Coronation Park Sport and Recreation Centre will share its entrance with the award-winning Peter Hemingway Fitness and Leisure Centre that is expected to reopen in tandem with Coronation Park after it was closed for rehabilitation in 2021.
