eSystems 2021 – Yamaha’s New PWSeries CE

October 10, 2020 - The PWSeries CE is Yamaha’s latest addition to its line of e-bike systems. Founded in 1955, the company cut its teeth producing high-quality motorcycles and boat motors. In 1993 Yamaha invented the world’s first electrically power assisted bicycle (PAS) with sales of over 2 million e-bikes in Japan and its power assist systems are available to the global e-bike market.

The PWSeries CE is designed for the urban commuter and the lifestyle fitness market; it features a lighter, quieter drive unit with the
implementation of the Yamaha’s Automatic Support Mode (ASM) and an improved Walk Assist function.

In the quest for a natural, enjoyable ride, the 250-watt motor produces 50Nm of torque and can quickly and efficiently get up to the 32kph limit. Yamaha’s motors are maintenance-free, which should provide years of worry-free e-biking. Improvements to the system have also reduced motor noise, offering riders a more zen-like experience while riding through the park.

The mid-mounted compact motor is the lightest in Yamaha’s line-up and integrates neatly into the frame while tipping the scales at a mere 2.9kg. This reduction in weight improves bike handling, while the smaller size delivers an even cleaner, aesthetically pleasing look to the bike.

There are five modes of assist, including the ASM which uses Yamaha’s software technology to quickly read the current and constant changes in riding conditions and terrain to automatically select the correct mode of assist. The ASM also provides “strong and smooth” starts when moving from a complete stop. Improvements to the Walk Assist function, combined with the lighter weight, make it even easier to move the bike while pushing it up steep grades or with a full load.

Yamaha also recently released the External Crossover 500Wh, 36V lithium- ion battery, a great range booster for any Yamaha-powered e-bike. The new battery has a charge time of four hours and weighs in at 2.9kg.

The new PWSeries CE is compatible with Yamaha’s full range of multi-location designed batteries that can be easily integrated into the e-bike’s downtube, or mounted externally. For more information, please visit here.
