eNews – B.C. Partners with Vancouver on eCargo Bike Micro Hubs

October 28, 2021 - In late May, British Columbia announced a partnership with the City of Vancouver to support an e-cargo bike micro hub project to reduce traffic congestion and air pollution around the city.

Packages are transferred from trucks to the hub facility for storage. From the hub, e-cargo bikes make the final last-mile delivery.

Beginning in June 2021, the project is slated to run for 14 months with an evaluation in spring 2022 regarding productivity, capacity, cost, incidents, and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reductions achieved.

The BC government is contributing $200,000 in funding, while Vancouver will provide in-kind support of one full- time employee to manage the project, including coordination and outreach to businesses.

The project complements BC’s Go Electric Specialty-Use Vehicle Incentive (SUVI) program, which provides financial incentives of up to $1,700 for organizations and businesses to purchase e-cargo bikes.
