eNews – Eurobike to Move to Frankfurt in 2022

October 28, 2021 - The 29th edition of Eurobike, the world’s leading bicycle trade show, saw 18,770 trade visitors and 13,424 bicycle fans, exceeding turnout expectations given the global pandemic.

Eurobike 2021 was a big success amidst the pandemic.

A total of 630 exhibitors from 68 countries attended the event that welcomed trade visitors for two days, while the final two Festival Days were open to consumers as Eurobike bid farewell to Lake Constance and unveiled further details of its new concept for Frankfurt in 2022.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel was in attendance for a welcome address as great weather blessed the event following a dreary summer. While North American attendance was down, the show reported solid international presence for its final event.

The challenged supply chain was the number one topic along with the dominance of e-bikes and cargo bikes. Despite lower attendance, the final Eurobike saw a sold-out Bike Biz Revolution, the Eurobike Academy, Travel Talk, a fully-booked Start-Up Area, 36 Eurobike Awards and some 1,000 test bikes in the Demo Area.

Eurobike announced in late June that it will move to Frankfurt in 2022 in collaboration with show organizer Messe Frankfurt to facilitate future expansion and improve accessibility.

With the current cycling boom, a total of 150,000 visitors are expected over five days next year. The move also allows improved access given Frankfurt’s central location with ample hotel options.

The Eurobike Show will run July13-17 in 2022, with the first three days for the trade followed by a festival weekend open to the general public.

Industry analysts suggest the move favours Eurobike’s stronghold in cycling, as other shows such as Internationale Automobil Ausstellung (IAA) Mobility, which recently moved from Frankfurt to Munich, have shown a strong interest in bicycles.

Eurobike began in 1991 at Friedrichshafen on Lake Constance, and draws approximately 60,000 trade and consumer visitors. Plans for next year’s 30th edition in Frankfurt are already underway.
