April 13, 2022 - Following a recent study, the German Ministry of Transport plans to add up to 1.5 million additional bicycle parking spaces at train stations by 2030.
To accelerate the expansion of the necessary bicycle parking facilities and bicycle parking garages within the existing framework, a special City & Country program will provide municipalities and stakeholders like Deutsche Bahn with information on all important aspects of bicycle parking at train stations, including targets and funding.
“We should make it as attractive and easy as possible for people to ride their (e)bikes to the nearest train station, to be able to park their bikes there safely and then have good train connections,” said Volker Wissing, the German Transport Minister, in an interview with Welt. “People’s mobility will change completely, and it is my job as Transport Minister to ensure that people see this change as progress.”
