GM’s New ARIV e-Bike

July 5, 2019 - GM announces ARIV as the name of its new e-bike brand, which includes two innovative, integrated and connected e-bikes: the Meld, a compact e-bike; and the Merge, a folding e-bike. The bike brand will be launching first in Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands, due to the popularity of Lithium-ion-battery-powered e-bikes in those markets.

ARIV intends to use GM’s automotive-grade capabilities to set new standards in e-bike engineering. GM’s extensive experience with electric-vehicle motor software and controls greatly influenced the proprietary GM motor that was built from the ground up specifically for ARIV e-bikes. The ARIV batteries also feature similarly innovative technology, and over approximately 3.5 hours, they can last for up to 64 kilometres of ride time.

Featuring a sleek, stylish design that reflects the automotive and creative expertise the company is known for, ARIV e-bikes can also connect with the ARIV e-bike app via Bluetooth. This can easily provide metrics such as speed, distance, remaining battery level, motor-assist level, distance traveled and more. Although engineered and designed in GM facilities in Detroit, Michigan and Oshawa, Ont., ARIV bikes are not set to be released in Canada until a later date.
