eNews – Petition Launched vs U.S. DOT Review of Grants for Bikes Lanes

May 3, 2025 - A petition has been launched to fight against the US Department of Transportation (DOT) and its battle against bike lanes and other “green” infrastructure. Recent documents reveal that DOT Secretary Sean Duffy has ordered officials to stop action on all Biden-era discretionary grants for such projects.

The Trump administration is taking aim at the previous administration’s efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the nation’s transportation system. The DOT is being mandated to undertake
a “project-by-project review” to identify proposals that include references to not only Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA), but also grants “whose primary purpose is bicycle infrastructure” for possible removal.

Hill insider Yonah Freemark posted two screenshots of the document on his Bluesky account, reports Streetsblog USA.

The news sent shockwaves through the League of American Bicyclists’ annual Bike Summit in Washington, which has launched a petition to oppose a freeze on bike lane funding.
