October 10, 2020 - Touted as the longest continuous bike path in the world, Turkey recently unveiled a 26km route along the Mediterranean Sea that connects the towns of Samandag and Arsuz in the Hatay province.
In the works for five decades, the striking blue-coloured landmark bike path first welcomed cyclists on July 12, 2020. A donation of 50 bicycles from Turkey’s Green Crescent will be offered as rentals. The new route has decreased travel time between the two towns from 2.5 hours to only 40 minutes by car.
According to Hatay’s governor Rahmi Dogan, 74 culverts needed to be built along with two bridges to avoid interruption of the bike path.
