Eric Adams New York City’s 1st Bike Mayor Plans 300 Miles of Protected Bike Lanes

November 8, 2021 - New York City’s Mayor-elect Eric Adams, a former police captain, plans to add 300 miles of protected bike lanes reports the New York Post.

Adams told the Gothamist he’ll be “… on his bike all the time, riding to and from City Hall, in a real way. People are afraid and intimidated, so this is an opportunity and you’re going to need a bike rider to know why protected bike lanes are so important.”

A Democrat, Adams is the second African American mayor in NYC’s history, and handily defeated his Republican opponent on Nov. 2. Safe streets is a priority for him, and Adams says he has zero tolerance for abusive, criminal and violent behavior. He takes office on Jan. 1, 2022.
